How We Operate at Southborough

Southborough is a small community and the need for volunteers at a large incident or in a disaster is greatly needed. Emergency services will be tied up almost instantly on a large scale incident. We would rely upon trained volunteers in those times to assist with emergency operations at an incident as well as away from an incident. Also, in a non emergency setting, as in a fair, parade, or road race, volunteers would be needed to assist emergency services with traffic control, first aid, safety and more.

CERT and MRC are two separate groups, but both with the same mission, helping our community and helping our emergency services. In Southborough, we have both teams working together with the same goal. Our meetings and trainings are the same for both groups so that we cross train all members. This is key because incidents may require non medically trained members to be assisting medically trained members (i.e. Emergency Dispensing Site), and visa versa in other types of incidents.

We have regularly scheduled meetings, every first Monday of each month, held at Southborough Fire Station, 21 Main Street, at 6:00 PM. Each meeting involves a new subject, so there is always something new to learn. All trainings including First Aid and CPR are offered free of charge to members.

We communicate primarily through email and phones. In the event of deployment, members will be contacted for availability to respond to the incident. Since these are volunteer organizations, we completely understand and accept that members are not able to respond to incidents. Members are under no obligation to attend all meetings, nor are members required to respond to all, or even any, incidents.

You are taking the time out of your busy schedules to volunteer for the citizens of Southborough and surrounding communities. Your time is valuable and we thank every minute that you spend learning how to help yourself and others in times of need.
