The following is from Southboroughfire.org: A string of thunderstorms pounded Southborough Tuesday afternoon with intense cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rains. The rain gauge at the DPW building measured 4.66 inches of rain, which fell in a few short hours. The public safety complex was struck by lightning causing a temporary loss of some radio and telephone communications. One police officer who was in the police station garage received a shock during the strike. He was treated and released from a local hospital. Rain water inundated the Public Library causing flooding in the Children's room. Quick work by the library staff saved hundreds of books from the affected water. Streets, streams and yards which are normally ok in heavy rains suffered significant flooding. Many roads were closed or obstructed including, but not limited to: Boston Road, Main Street, Middle Road, Parkerville Road, Pine Hill Road. First Aid Class December 7, 2009 An American Heart Association First Aid Class, taught by our CERT/MRC Coordinator Intro to Mass Casualty Incidents November 2nd, 2009 One of our very own members taught a great class that introduced us to MCI's. A great class. Emergency Dispensing Site (EDS) Class October 3rd, 2009 We recently accomplished training for an EDS, or emergency dispensing site. The class was a very informative session, with hands on training. Psychological First Aid Class September 8th, 2009 A full-scale public health response to disasters must attend to both the physical and mental health needs of affected groups. The latter set of needs is especially important because most authorities agree that far more individuals will report psychologically-related complaints than will report physical symptoms directly stemming from the injury-causing agent or event. Because a large-scale emergency will overwhelm existing mental health response resources, psychological first aid – the provision of basic psychological care in the short term aftermath of a traumatic event – is an important skill set that all mental Health volunteer should possess. Fire Department Training Exercise May 20th, 2009 CERT and MRC were asked to help with a Fire Department Training exercise involving low slope rescue.
