They provide critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at disaster sites. CERT members deliver basic emergency medical treatment, disaster fire suppression, and light search and rescue services to their community in coordination with professional emergency responders. CERT members assist in other vital non-hazardous roles during emergencies such as providing clerical and business related assistance, such as accounting, providing specialized equipment, such as off-road vehicles and providing specialized skills, such as structural engineering and auto repair.
